This painting was inspired by my love of Italy, and Giotto’s stunning fresco paintings in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. I’m drawn to the starry blue sky unifying the design. In Giotto’s time, ultramarine blue was so expensive, it was considered to be just as precious as gold. The pigment was used sparingly for only the most important commissions. So what Giotto do? He covered each of the 39 fresco’s backgrounds in a star-studded field of solid ultramarine blue. How badass it must have been at the time!

In the spirit of Giotto, I created an ultramarine blue field dotted with metallic gold painted stars as the background in this painting.

Signed and dated on front and back. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
